In September, with finance reform well in hand, Fr. Monan establishes a University Academic Planning Council of faculty and administrators to chart the academic future for Boston College. The UAPC is the first of many campus planning groups he will convene during his tenure, but at this moment the overture is richly symbolic, akin to extending an umbrella over the fractured campus.

The Hillside residence halls, with a capacity of 748, mark the first phase of a building explosion that will bring 1,622 more beds to campus over the next two years. By 1975-76, residents will surpass commuters for the first time in BC history.

"Perspectives on Western Culture," an interdisciplinary course which is to become the most popular and longest-lived in BC history, begins under the sponsorship of the philosophy and theology departments. By 1975-76 there will be 10 sections of the course, with 25 students in each section.
