The Language and Literacy of a Young Adult Who Is Deafblind

This project seeks to extend the results of two previous studies (Bruce & Conlon, 2005; Bruce, Randall, & Birge, 2008) by revisiting the case of a now 21 year-old young man who is congenitally deafblind, born at 24 weeks gestational age. This study provides a rare opportunity to create a longitudinal case that captures the communication, language, and literacy development of one learner over a period of more than 15 years. It will also provide the unique opportunity to look at the application of assistive technologies to support literacy in a young adult learner.
