How do patients navigate potentially discriminatory interactions (e.g., doctor-patient relationships)?
We investigate how patients navigate potentially discriminatory interactions (e.g., doctor-patient relationships), and how these relationship dynamics can contribute to racial health disparities. We are also interested in developing interventions that can improve these interactions and mitigate healthcare disparities.
How/when does the degree to which individuals assume their own health extends to others, influence not only their personal health and behaviors, but also their stance on broader systemic issues, such as support for universal healthcare policy?
In this line of research, we seek to understand how the degree to which people assume their own health extends to others (what we call the Social Extension of Health Mindset) influence not only their own health and health behaviors, but also their stance on broader systemic changes, such as their support of universal healthcare policy.
How does the "model minority" myth associated with Black immigrants (Afro-Caribbeans, Africans) affect both intergroup and intragroup relations within the broader Black community in the USA?
This line of research focuses on how the model minority myth associated with Black immigrant populations impact Black immigrants and Black Americans living in the USA. We also investigate how the Black community contends with and discuss this myth. We ultimately are interested in designing interventions that increase intragroup solidarity within the broader Black community, while also honoring the diversity that exists within the Black community in the USA.
