Welcome to the SHIC Lab! 

The (Self, Health, Identity, and Culture Lab) applies a socio-cultural-psychological lens to the relationships among health, the self, others, and social contexts to develop novel theories and robust interventions that can help lessen health disparities, improve public health, and promote healthier societies.  We use multi-methods (e.g., experimental, qualitative, longitudinal, and natural language processing) to investigate how these processes unfold and potential interventions.

The Self, Health, Identity & Culture Lab at Boston College is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher to support projects focused on the interdependence of health. Our research explores the sociopsychological and cultural factors that shape people’s understanding of health and the self. The postdoc will primarily work on implementing an intervention that aims to improve health through culturally responsive approaches. This is a 2-year, in-person position beginning in Summer 2025. This opportunity is ideal for someone interested in health behaviors, cross-cultural health understanding, and intervention science. The Postdoctoral Researcher will collaborate closely with Dr. Kengthsagn Louis and will have opportunities to engage in both collaborative and independent research projects. The annual salary is $66,000 for someone starting with 0 years of experience and includes full benefits offered by Boston College. Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and dissemination of research and interventions on health across cultural contexts
  • Conduct mixed-methods research, including qualitative, quantitative, and big data collection and analysis
  • Support project development, grant writing, manuscript preparation, and some mentorship of junior lab members.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Psychology or a related field (or expected by start date)
  • Research experience in social, health, or cultural psychology strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in mixed methods research (qualitative and quantitative), experimental design, longitudinal studies, or intervention work
  • Candidates from diverse backgrounds, including those underrepresented in health-related research, are strongly encouraged to apply
