This program of research is focused the measurement of biobehavioral factors underpinning the perception and response to symptoms among patients with heart failure. The Heart Failure Somatic Perception Scale v.3 (HFSPS) was developed, psychometrically tested and translated into several languages. The interplay of physiological (e.g. biomarkers, metabolites, heart rate variability), psychological (e.g. depression, anxiety) and clinical factors are being explored in addition to self-report of symptoms using the HFSPS. To support judicious use of health care resources, the purpose of this research is to identify which patients require more intensive medical oversight versus interventions targeting self-care skill.
