Experiences of individuals who have experienced trauma; the acute and chronic care of children following sexual assault; the influence of regret on decision-making and reporting sexual assault to the police; and decision aid development.
Carol Anne Marchetti, Ph.D., RN, PMHNP-BC, is a clinical associate professor and the director of the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program at the Connell School of Nursing and practices at Colony Care Behavioral Health in Wellesley.
Dr. Marchetti is the former president of the New England Chapter of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and holds an appointment as Associate Clinical Adjunct Professor at Northeastern University Bouvé College of Health Sciences School of Nursing. Dr. Marchetti was a certified Massachusetts Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) for 11 years, and is the psychiatric consultant for MA SANE Program. Throughout her nursing career, she has cared for individuals across the lifespan in pediatric and neonatal intensive care units, psychiatric hospitals, and outpatient settings.
She earned bachelor's degrees in management/marketing and nursing from UMass Boston; and received a master's degree, nursing post-graduate teaching certificate, and PhD from Boston College. Her program of research focuses on trauma responses and decision-making, particularly regarding regret and the police reporting of sexual assault. Also, she is conducting research on SANE attitudes regarding the possibility of cross-training to care for younger children in emergency care settings. As an assistant professor at Northeastern from 2011 to 2015, she served as an advisor to baccalaureate, master, and doctoral students; and taught undergraduate and graduate nursing courses in pathophysiology, psychiatric mental health nursing, the psychobiology of mental illness, and evidence-based research.
