Boston College seeks both to advance its place among the nation's finest universities and to bring to the company of its distinguished peers and to contemporary society the richness of the Catholic intellectual ideal of a mutually illuminating relationship between religious faith and free intellectual inquiry.
As part of this mission, formation and reflection of character occupy a unique and critical niche of student and academic life and culture at Boston College; with student and academic formation intimately tied with the Ignatian spirit, the Division of University Mission and Ministry is especially active in the coordination and development of the university-wide process of maintaining and promoting the distinctive academic and societal mission of Boston College as a Catholic and Jesuit university. It serves as a resource for existing programs that promote the Catholic and Jesuit identity of the University in areas such as academic affairs, student affairs, human resources, and university relations, and for the collaborative development of new programs in these areas.
Intersections
This program promotes conversation among faculty and staff about the mission of BC. It offers retreats, immersion trips, and seminars for faculty and staff and explores the Jesuit, Catholic dimensions of the University.
Center for Ignatian Spirituality
The mission of the center is to primarily serve as a resource for the University community in promoting conversation about the Jesuit mission and its relationship with culture and with other religious traditions, thus enhancing the human and religious environment of Boston College.
First Year Experience
This program helps our newest undergraduates, both freshman and transfer students, transition into the intellectual, social, and cultural community of BC.
Center for Student Formation
The Center for Student Formation helps students integrate their intellectual, social, and spiritual lives. Rooted in the Jesuit tradition, the work of student formation includes mentorship programs, retreats, leadership opportunities, and service experiences that encourage students to reflect on their lives and deepest desires.
International Orientation
This orientation is designed to allow new international students meet both American and other international students, and provides useful information about Boston College and about being an international student in the United States
Pastoral Support
This service has a special emphasis on developing outreach and assistance to Staff and Alumni. With seminars and masses, Fr. Skipp Conlan, S.J. wants to find out how BC can support you.
Arrupe International Immersion Program
The Arrupe International Immersion Program (Office of Campus Ministry) seeks to help students learn about the complex realities of people struggling in poverty. The program offers nine immersion trips every year to Latin America and the Caribbean, providing students with the opportunity to learn firsthand from marginalized communities and reflect on the relationship between faith and justice.
Jamaica Magis
Jamaica Magis aims to provide Boston College students the opportunity to live and serve in solidarity with people in Jamaica who have faced social, political, and economic oppression. Jamaica Magis strives to build a community of students who truly embody Boston College’s call to become men and women for others.
