Annual Hispanic Ministry Renewal Day
Cada año, la Escuela de Teología y Ministeria organiza un día de formación y crecimiento para líderes pastorales que trabajan con comunidades hispanas.
Through diverse programs and partnerships focused on advancing Hispanic ministry and scholarship, CSTM prepares ministers, academics, educators, and Church leaders to serve the needs of Hispanic Catholics in the United States. Alongside our degree and certificate programs, CSTM's Formación Continua courses provide continuing education to some 20,000 people around the world, entirely in Spanish.
45%
of all Catholics self-identify as Hispanic or Latinx
Students in all of our graduate degree programs can incorporate courses in Hispanic theology and ministry. We also offer a dedicated certificate and a concentration within our M.A. program.
Our M.A. program offers an optional Hispanic Ministry concentration for interested students. This master's program can be completed full-time on BC's campus or in a part-time, hybrid format that combines online courses with in-person summer sessions.
This flexible 18-credit certificate program can be completed entirely online. It provides a broad grounding in theology and ministry that can be tailored toward ministerial work with Hispanic faith communities.
Are you already serving Hispanic communities or interested in doing so in the future? This 18-credit program is perfect for students and professionals, with graduate degrees and without, who wish to focus their service on Hispanic ministry.
Qualified lay applicants of all backgrounds who demonstrate a clear commitment to advancing Hispanic ministry and scholarship, and who intend to work with Hispanic communities after completing their studies, are eligible to apply for a scholarship that will cover at least 75% of their tuition. Scholarships are awarded based on merit and availability.
Boston College Clough School of Theology and Ministry is also a lead partner of Haciendo Caminos, a network designed to support young adult Catholics with a particular commitment to serving Hispanic communities.

My time at the CSTM allowed me to incorporate theological reflection around those issues. At the same time, it offered me a diverse environment where I could discuss some of my ideas and gain perspectives to enhance my reflections.

My interest have revolved around issues related to migration and refugees. My time at the CSTM allowed me to incorporate theological reflection around those issues. At the same time, it offered me a diverse environment where I could discuss some of my ideas and gain perspectives to enhance my reflections. My academic work during my studies served as the basis to explore and work on a doctorate in Migration Studies after completing my time at BC.
Ph.D. Theology and Education, 2023
Since childhood, I have had a passion for education and a vocation to a life in ministry. I have come to the realization that these are not separate paths; rather, they are two interwoven estradas, two paths leading to a life modeled in the words and deeds of Jesus Christ.

Since childhood, I have had a passion for education and a vocation to a life in ministry. I have come to the realization that these are not separate paths; rather, they are two interwoven estradas, two paths leading to a life modeled in the words and deeds of Jesus Christ. It is this realization that led me to the interdisciplinary doctoral program in theology and education and the concentration on Hispanic Ministry at the CSTM. My research analyzes the intersections of (undocumented) immigration, literature, and education; my current work focuses on the incorporation of immigrant narratives as culturally-sustaining pedagogies in religious/theological education.
M.A. Theology and Ministry – Hispanic Ministry Concentration
The program reconnected me with forgotten aspects of my background and helped me to understand that my story is important.

I enter religious life after years of working as a business consultant and human resources professional. As part of my formation, I had to study theology, and I had many options when it came to select a school. For me, it was clear I wanted to attend the Clough School of Theology and Ministry at BC. I wanted a school that would expose me not only to local religious sisters and priests but also to laypeople and religious and priests from around the world. The CSTM did that, allowing me to learn about faraway realities so that I could serve immigrant and refugee families better. Despite not wanting to minister to Hispanics when I entered religious life because I did not want to be “boxed” as a sister who could only do that. I had a conversion during my novitiate, and I selected the Hispanic Track when enrolling at the CSTM. The program reconnected me with forgotten aspects of my background and helped me to understand that my story is important.
The CSTM equipped me in so many ways for what it came after graduation. I conducted a consulting project for the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) about the need and importance of educating Hispanic children. I worked for the Catholic Schools Office in the Archdiocese of Boston, serving and advocating for Hispanic families. Today, at Emmanuel College, I interact with students from different backgrounds, different religions, and different spiritualities. Experiencing the diverse and international CSTM community (students and faculty) prepared me well for these interactions.
Ph.D. Theology and Education '25
The CSTM is committed to form ministers and scholars who recognize the spiritual and social needs of God's people. The formation and support we receive as students is holistic and social justice oriented.

Experience
The accompaniment and mentorship of my academic advisor has been key for my educational success while at the CSTM. Dr. Hosffman Ospino has been a great support helping me to transition from my pastoral ministry background to academic scholarship, discerning my research project, broadening my network, and strengthening my research and writing skills.
Community
The CSTM is intentional providing spaces for community building through the liturgy, students-led groups, and cultural celebrations. Additionally, the program cohorts are small allowing us to connect at a deeper level with our peers. My Ph.D. cohort has become my family and primary support in the academic struggle as well as in life challenges.

Why CSTM?
It allowed me to grow pastorally, spiritually, personally, and professionally in ways I had not yet. It also allowed me to see the intercultural and intersectional realities of faith, justice, and theology come together in ways that were proactive for the local and regional community.
With one of the largest concentrations of Hispanic and Latin American theologians in the country, CSTM's faculty bring truly enriching perspectives on research, teaching, and mentorship.
Through our partnerships with organizations on campus and around the country, CSTM students will find a range of additional opportunities to connect with Hispanic and Latinx communities and prepare to serve their needs.
Corazon Latinx fosters a sense of comunidad among CSTM students who are interested in working with Latinx communities. The committee works to promote awareness and celebrates Latinx religious culture in three distinct areas: community, liturgy, and spirituality.
STM partners with several organizations supporting Hispanic ministry in the U.S., including:
STM is a sponsor of the Hispanic Summer Program, which seeks to shape the next generation of Latinx theological and academic leaders. Each summer, the program offers courses with leading Hispanic and Latinx scholars at a host institution, and students can attend at a reasonable cost.
This $7.9 million grant from the Lilly Endowment will increase support for graduate theological education for young adult Catholics with a particular commitment to serving Hispanic communities.
