Teaching
As a teacher and mentor I strive to create inclusive spaces in classrooms and research labs where students feel respected, comfortable to show up as their whole self, and are engaged in dynamic and interactive learning opportunities. I use pedagogy and teaching and mentoring methods that put students at the center of their learning experiences.

ENGR 3112: Advanced Engineering Foundations: Thermodynamics
Course Instructor – Fall 2024 at Boston College
Thermodynamics is everywhere! It's heating our homes, powering our cars, in our medical procedures, and controlling changes in the atmosphere and environment.
This course will cover the first and second laws of thermodynamics and apply them to closed and open systems. Topics include:
- Energy conservation
- Heat cycles
- Entropy
- Enthalpy
- Material property estimation for pure components and mixtures
- Phase equilibria.
Course will include engineering applications of thermodynamics in energy, the environment, and health.
Who should take this course?
All junior and senior HCE majors are eligible to take this course! We will build on concepts related to heat, energy, and thermodynamics that you learned about in EFS III. No matter if your area of interest is energy, the enviroment, health, or something else, we will have a myriad of examples to work won because thermodynamics is everywhere! It fulfills one of your Advanced Engineering Foundations and technical elective requirements.

ENGR 4320/3320: Quantitative Sustainable Design
Course Instructor – Spring 2025/2024 at Boston College
This is a project-based course that focuses on the application of quantitative sustainable design (QSD) to energy technologies. QSD is a framework linking design and operational decisions to sustainability indicators to inform decision-making. This allows for navigation of trade-offs across environmental, economic, and social dimensions of sustainability.
In this course students will learn methods for economic analyses (TEA – techno-economic analysis, LCC – life cycle costing) and environmental sustainability assessment (LCA – life cycle assessment), as well as uncertainty and sensitivity analyses. Students will apply this process to a semester-long design project of an energy technology of interest.
(Course was listed as ENGR 3320 in Spring 2024 and updated to ENGR 4320 in Spring 2025.)
Who should take this course?
HCE majors interested in energy concentration. Environment concentration students may also be inetrested. Non-HCE majors shold contact the instructor for permission.
Potential project topics:
- Sustainable aviation fuels
- Biorefineries with biofuels and co-products
- Electric vehicles
- Batteries
- Hydrogen production
- Green infrastructure
ENGR 3702 & 3703: Third-Year Reflection
Course Instructor – Spring 2025, Fall 2024, Spring 2024, Fall 2023, at Boston College
- Weekly 50-min (0 credit hour) required seminar for all third-year students (25) majoring in Human-Centered Engineering
- Course Description: Students will participate in weekly reflections designed to integrate experiences in the HCE classroom with broader questions about the relationships among engineering, design, and society. In the third year, students will explore ideas of engineering identity, service-based engineering, and what it means to engage with communities during engineering project work.
