Pronouns

October 20, 2021, marks International Pronouns Day, which “seeks to make respecting, sharing, and educating about personal pronouns commonplace.”

There are lots of easy ways to celebrate International Pronouns Day, including:

  • Wear a pronouns button or sticker to help normalize pronoun sharing and start conversations. (Here are some printable pronouns stickers!)

  • Add your pronouns more permanently to your email signature, name tag, business cards, or class syllabi (See some example language.)

  • Encourage sharing pronouns in your classroom or future meetings by sharing your own when you introduce yourself. (Learn more about sharing pronouns or asking for pronouns.)

Here are a few resources to learn more:

LGBT@BC affinity Group’s Transgender Inclusion Subcommittee has been working on putting together a short (~20min) training on pronouns and their use in the classroom. If you are a faculty member interested in having such training in your department, reach out to them at lgbtqsteering@bc.edu!
