CTE Program Accessibility Initiatives
The CTE is committed to providing equal access to events and programs. If you ever have any questions about the specifics of a program, don’t hesitate to email centerforteaching@bc.edu.
Our goal is to make our offerings as accessible as possible from the outset, though we can’t anticipate the needs of each individual. If you require an accommodation to participate in an event, please either:
- Indicate the accommodation need on the event registration form
- Email centerforteaching@bc.edu
- Contact Kim Humphrey, Assistant Director of Equitable Teaching and Learning (humphrek@bc.edu; 617-552-3749).
While there is no firm deadline for accommodation requests, earlier notice better allows us to implement a solution that will meet your needs.
Steps CTE staff generally take to make our programs more accessible:
- Make accessible materials available at least 48 hours ahead of time whenever possible
- Provide multiple modes for communication (e.g. verbal and written) throughout
- Provide automatic captioning during slide presentations
- Make KN95 masks availableProvide alternatives to in-person attendance as appropriate (such as sharing session recordings or notes, allowing for remote attendance, or meeting individually)
For programs that we expect to draw a larger audience — like Excellence in Teaching Day or TA/TF Orientation — we also:
- Provide recordings of keynote sessions. Recordings of plenary or breakout panels may also be available, pending panelist approval.
- Use microphones in all event spaces
- Have ASL interpreters during keynote and plenary sessions
- If moving between buildings is part of the day, identifying a CTE staff member who will take the accessible route between buildings
Community members and visitors can reserve a lactation space through the Office for Institutional Diversity.
