Boston in the summer has always been one of my favorite times to see and discover the city. There are so many different things to do to take a break from school and homework during the summer. I have been able to be a hybrid student for the last two summers. In between readings and assignments I have always made time on the weekend to see a new part or visit some of my now favorite places in the city. Here is a little guide of what you can do this upcoming summer as a hybrid student, and remember these are all group friendly so why not take a CSTM friend with you?

Charles River

Weekend 1. The Freedom Trail will take you on a self-guided walking tour around the city visiting some major landmarks of American history. While you are downtown, make sure to visit the Boston Common and Public Garden. They are beautiful places to walk around, have a picnic, or even bring some reading to prepare for class.

Weekend 2: Beyond Boston, one of my favorite spots to explore is Cambridge. It is a beautiful balance of a college town with the Boston colonial feel. Cambridge is filled with many cafes for a quick study session or to grab lunch. Cambridge is known for its food - I have tried everything from tacos, to ramen, to an American pub. I would suggest if you are visiting Cambridge try going around and see what new food you could try out that weekend. Cambridge also has many great thrift stores and pop-up shops almost every weekend during the summer. The 86 bus offers a direct route from Brighton to Cambridge!

Art on Newbury Street

Weekend 3: Knowing that this is your final weekend in Boston (for now!), I would recommend you go into downtown once again. One of my favorite things to do to end my time in Boston is walk around Newbury Stree. Every Sunday during the summer the city closes the whole street off from cars, so people can walk freely and enjoy vendors and all the shops and restaurants it has to offer. You can also visit the Museum of Fine Arts, the Aquarium, or the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum to end your time in the city, but definitely stop by the Boston Public Library in Copley Square before you leave! Looking for a celebratory dinner to end your time in Boston? I would recommend Eva, a Mediterranean restaurant right on Newbury Street.

Boston is such a vibrant city in the summer and there is always something to do on the weekends. Whether you are a foodie, a thrifter, or a lover of history and architecture, the city offers something for everyone. Also be on the lookout for any free festivals in the city. There are also many options outside the city such as trails and beaches that you can also take a weekend trip and discover all that New England has to offer (be sure to look into the Commuter Rail for travel options). Make sure to bring your sunglasses, water, walking shoes, and have fun making Boston your home away from home for the summer!
