Fall
“In my free time, I enjoy taking walks or being outside in any season because it connects me back to nature. Even the walks to campus remind me to pause and enjoy the natural beauty around me. Also, there are many places to hike in Massachusetts, which can be fun to explore.”
“I love to hike around New England, enjoy the foliage, visit Salem, and go apple picking!”
“Hiking among all of the pretty leaves! Blue Hills is a great local spot, and the White Mountains are also beautiful if you are up for a longer drive.”
“I look forward to apple picking/flannel season in New England every year. This time of year is so beautiful as the trees change colors. Harpoonfest at Harpoon Brewery is always a blast.”
“I love baking for friends and family this time of year. Apple pie/apple crisp are a fan favorite!”
“The Boston skyline captured from the Charles River basin! We took this photo while sailing on the Charles in the fall. Michael learned to sail during our time in Boston — something he had never done before! He took lessons from Community Boating on the Charles River Esplanade.”
Summer
“I love to explore downtown Boston in the summer! It is quieter since less students are around and the weather and sunsets are amazing to walk around outside!”
“Kayak or canoe on the Charles River! Going downtown is fun, but there are also more natural stretches farther out from the city.”
“Summer in Boston is truly so fun. So many bars and restaurants, trails to explore, and even beaches (check out South Boston’s Castle Island, M Street Beach, and Carson Beach).”
“In the summer, there are free outdoor movies on the dock behind the Boston Harbor Hotel downtown. You can bring your own takeout or picnic food and sit on the steps surrounding the dock, or you can splurge and get a meal at the hotel’s outdoor restaurant while watching the movie.”
“The view from Castle Hill Inn in Newport, RI. In the summer, they have a little outdoor bar set up, and you can get a drink and sit in these adirondack chairs overlooking the ocean.”
Winter
“I love to try different hot chocolates from local cafés and movie nights in my apartment!”
“Walk around Chandler Pond and watch people play hockey on the ice.”
“While many dread the snow, it hasn’t been bad the past few years in Boston! It is actually quite fun and different. If you like to ski check out the Blue Hills or head over to Nashoba Valley for some tubing and/or a tour of their winery! There are also so many options up north that are only an hour or two away.”
“For close to eight years I have lived near the Arnold Arboretum, which can best be described as a museum for trees. During these months of pandemic lock down, I have made it a practice to walk there a few mornings a week. Recently I have felt the season changing. While there is snow, there are also signs of winter loosening its grip. This photo reflects the shift. The warm and cold air meet, causing this beautiful morning fog. As limited as my travel has been this year, my encounters with nature’s beauty in the Arboretum have created countless opportunities for my spirit to wander in awe.”
Spring
“I love to look for and see all of the blooming flowers!”
“Hard to say, since last spring I was pretty much trapped inside with everything canceled! I’ll just say I enjoy walking around and looking at all the blooming trees and flowers!”
“There is something so comforting about Spring in Boston. The flowers and landscape around BC are immaculate. Facilities staff do such a nice job keeping our campus looking beautiful and photogenic!”
“Abel’s Lobster Pound in Mt. Desert, ME. This is the perfect place to enjoy Maine lobster after hiking and exploring in nearby Acadia National Park.”
