Christian education in the context of contemporary China
Xiaoping is a Theology and Education student at BC Clough School of Theology and Ministry. Prior to joining CSTM, she had gained rich experience in Christian faith formation from teaching theology at a major seminary, directing retreats at a Spiritual Center, and assisting the priest in pastoral work at a large parish. Those experiences led her to believe that Christian education in any particular cultural context needs to be firmly rooted in the culture. An effective Christian education cannot be possible without dialoguing with the local culture and the faith tradition of the local people. Xiaoping’s dissertation discusses the role of Chinese cultural heritage, and Chinese Christians’ practice of faith formation in creating a new effective Christian education in the context of contemporary China.
