First World War; British and European History; Twentieth Century History; Emotional History; Cultural History
Leea Stroia’s research focuses on the British Army during the First World War, exploring questions of emotional survival. She is interested in how soldiers engaged with their own emotions, how that was informed by societal and cultural expectations, and how soldiers coped with their own emotional experiences during the War.
Leea completed an MSt in British and European History from the University of Oxford in 2016. Her current research is building on her master’s thesis “Sport and British Soldiers on the Western Front, 1914-1918,” which examines sport as a metaphor in war, sport tied to community and survival, and sport and questions of class.
