Outreach

In partnership with theĀ Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, we organize outreach events aimed at engaging high school students in learning about global warming and how fundamental research in catalysis can help address it.

Together with Prof. Jia Niu, the Waegele group co-hosted an outreach event for sixty high school students and their parents at Boston College on May 6th, 2018. The participants enjoyed lectures, a lab tour, and constructed dye-sensitized solar cells. We discussed the science of global warming and how electrocatalysis could form the backbone of a carbon-neutral economy in the future. During the workshop, we built dye-sensitized solar cells with dye molecules extracted from blackberries.
