Welcome to The Meyer Lab. We are interested in how bacterial RNA gene regulators evolve. This research involves several distinct questions and strategies that all strive to understand the relationships between nucleotide sequence, RNA 3D structure, gene regulatory activity, organismal fitness and how these properties impact RNA evolution.
We use a combination of computational and experimental methods that include traditional in vitro biochemistry, microbiology, and high-throughput sequencing techniques. Our main model organisms are Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
