The 2019 Beacon Satellite Symposium (BSS) successfully concluded last week at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Poland (19-23 August 2019). Over 130 ionospheric scientists and engineers from 34 countries took part in the conference. Patricia Doherty, Director of BC's Institute for Scientific Research (ISR), chaired the Scientific Organizing Committee. ISR scientists Charlie Carrano and Chuck Rino also attended, presenting their recent work on modeling the ionosphere and its effects on satellite communications. Pat and Chuck chaired several of the scientific sessions as well. While there, Pat was interviewed by a local newspaper and saw moon rocks from the Apollo 11 mission. According to Pat, "The venue, the warm reception from the LOC, and the scientific program were all excellent."
