Overview

The mission of the BCCC - Brookline Campus is to provide an exemplary early childhood program which is comprehensive in presenting curriculum in the areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Technology, History and Social Science, Health Education, and Education in the Arts.

The classrooms are designed with different learning centers for preschool children to explore and learn at their own pace. These learning centers include a science area, an art area, a writing center, sensory tables, a quiet library, and a busy block and dramatic play area.

Providing a safe, warm, nurturing environment where children are motivated and excited to learn is a priority at BCCC.

The staff create and implement curriculum and learning opportunities based on the needs, interests, and development of all the children.  The teachers continuously assess the children’s needs and observe their progress, allowing the curriculum to meet the needs of all children.

Very often, activities and curriculum come to life through themes in the classrooms.  The teachers enhance the environments and weave the theme throughout all areas.  For example, while studying families, the block area may include family figures for pretend play, dolls can be washed in the water table, children share photographs of their own families, books portraying all types of families would be included throughout the classroom, and group discussions would revolve around the many wonderful aspects of our families.  While children and teachers explore various themes together they are making discoveries, learning new concepts, and engaging in playful learning.

The social and emotional growth of all children are a high priority at BCCC.  The staff continuously support children as they are learning to share, take turns, communicate effectively, build self-reliance, and show concern and respect for others.  Additionally, staff support children in their development of fine and gross motor skills, language and communication skills, mathematic and scientific skills, and creative and expressive skills, while engaging in hands on, playful learning experiences.
