2,660 miles in 53 Days, 6 hours, and 37 minutes. That's how long it took BC alumnus Joe McConaughy '14 to break the Pacific Crest Trail record. The previous record was 59 days, 8 hours and 14 minutes, set in the summer of 2014.
The improbable trek was done in honor of McConaughy's cousin, Colin, who died of a a rare brain cancer in 2012 at the age of two. The run raised more than $30,000 for CancerCare, a nonprofit that helps people manage the emotional and financial challenges of cancer.
The record-setting journey was captured in the 'Run For Colin' documentary, a film produced by a team of Boston College alumni, including Michael Dillon '13, Jordan Hamm '13 and Ben Heider '12.
