Confidentiality

The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) is dedicated to Boston College’s commitment to advancing best and innovative teaching practices amongst its faculty and graduate students. In order to fully support this commitment, all faculty and graduate student contact with the Center for Teaching Excellence and its programming is confidential. The CTE strives to provide a safe environment in which instructors can explore innovative pedagogies and reflect on their teaching practices. To encourage faculty and graduate students to engage in this reflection, all feedback provided by the CTE is formative and will not be used for evaluative purposes.

  • The CTE will not share information about faculty attendance or feedback with other interested parties, including deans and department heads. No feedback provided to faculty will be made available for consultation in promotion, tenure, or reappointment processes.
  • Attendance at CTE events and the use of CTE services are completely voluntary. The CTE will not initiate appointments with faculty members at the request of deans or departments heads.
  • The CTE may track and report out aggregate statistics about faculty attendance, but any and all identifying information will be removed.
  • While the CTE provides opportunities for graduate students to reflect on their teaching, the CTE is not responsible for monitoring or evaluating Teaching Assistant or Teaching Fellow performance. Students who complete the Apprenticeship in College Teaching program will receive a certificate documenting this completion.
