C21 Webcasts Deliver Programs Globally In October, people from 45 countries visited the Church in the 21st Century Center's website, discovering a multitude of programs that embrace the fall 2008 theme, "Encountering Jesus in the Scriptures." Several of the Center's lectures now appear as featured webcasts, including: Daniel Harrington's "The Jewishness of Jesus" ; Eileen Daily's "The Jesus of Scriptures Mediated Through Art" ; Pheme Perkins' "The Jesus of History" and more. Throughout the year, the Church in the 21st Century Center sponsors over 40 events, a majority on the Boston College Campus. Now, many of these events can be discovered and enjoyed online.

| | Inaugural Lecture Celebrates Muslim and Christian Dialogue On September 19th, the Church in the 21st Century Center along with the Boston College Theology Department and the School of Theology and Ministry sponsored the Inaugural Lecture of the Boston College Symposia in Interreligious Dialogue. The event underscored the historic and meaningful October 2007 signing of "A Common Word" by 138 prominent Muslim leaders, reaching out to Christians on the basis of what is common to both faiths. The program featured keynote speaker, Professor David Burrell, Emeritus from the University of Notre Dame with respondents: Professor Francis Clooney of Harvard University and Professor Joseph Lumbard of Brandeis University. | | High Praise for 2nd Preaching Seminar Thirteen parish priests gathered at the Connors Family Retreat and Conference Center on Boston College’s Dover Campus for the second in a series of three seminars that empower and improve the preaching skills
of priests in Massachusetts. "There is a deep desire shared by many Catholic priests to hone their preaching talents," said John McGinty, Acting Director of the C21 Center. This important endeavor is supported by an anonymous three-year grant and is a collaborative sponsorship of the Archdiocese of Boston, the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry (including C21 Online), and The Church in the 21st Century Center.

| | Agape Latte: Students and Alumni Talk Faith and the 2008 Election On Wednesday evening, October 16th, Ken Himes, OFM, the chair of the Boston College Theology Department and featured speaker, welcomed an overflow crowd of alumni and students at the Hillside Café to discuss “Finding Jesus in the Voting Booth.” Each month, faculty members meet in this casual public setting to discuss the intersection of real life issues and their faith. This spirited and timely talk about how one’s religious faith might impact the vote for president can be experienced via webcast on the C21 website.
