REGULATORY RADAR - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released guidance for employers on re-opening office buildings in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

REGULATORY RADAR - On May 20, the Chicago City Council passed an ordinance protecting employees from retaliation from employers for following public health guidelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

REGULATORY RADAR - The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has issued new disclosure requirements mandating that public companies begin disclosing on human-capital-related resources.

REGULATORY RADAR - Nasdaq filed a proposal with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to adopt new listing rules related to board diversity and disclosure. If approved by the SEC, the new listing rules would require all companies listed on Nasdaq’s U.S. exchange to publicly disclose consistent, transparent diversity statistics regarding their board of directors.

REGULATORY RADAR - On November 9, 2020, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that the United Kingdom will require certain companies to improve their climate-risk reporting for reporting periods that begin January 2021.

REGULATORY RADAR - The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that it will review how companies are disclosing the risks they face from climate change.

REGULATORY RADAR - On August 20, 2021, China's National People's Congress passed a law designed to protect online user data privacy, which will go into effect on November 1.

REGULATORY RADAR - On March 3, 2022, U.S. President Joe Biden signed a bill into law that bans pre-dispute employment arbitration agreements for sexual harassment and sexual assault claims.

REGULATORY RADAR - AB 979 is a California law which required California-headquartered public companies to have a certain number of ethnically and racially diverse or LGBTQ+ members on their boards of directors. On April 1, 2022, this law was struck down by the Superior Court of California.

REGULATORY RADAR - The Los Angeles Superior Court recently ruled to overturn California’s law requiring companies to include women on their boards of directors. The gender diversity law was found to be in violation of the California Constitution’s equal protection clause.

REGULATORY RADAR - IL Gov. J.B. Pritzker has signed the “Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair” Act, or CROWN Act, into law. The act prohibits hair discrimination and introduces protections by amending the Illinois Human Rights Act (IHRA)...

REGULATORY RADAR - European Parliament and European Union negotiators have agreed on a bill aimed at increasing the number of women on corporate boards.
