RE: Update on Coronavirus and University Travel Restrictions
DA: 2/28/2020
On February 6, based on travel advisories from the U.S. State Department and the Centers for Disease Control, Boston College placed a prohibition on BC–sponsored travel to China for all students, faculty, and staff. Today, in light of new guidelines from the State Department and the CDC, Boston College is extending its BC-sponsored travel prohibition to South Korea. We will continue to monitor these travel advisories closely, and will remove restrictions as soon as it is deemed safe to do so. While we understand this may cause an inconvenience for some on campus, we believe it is a necessary action to take to ensure the safety and well-being of the BC community.
The University has been communicating with various constituencies concerning the impacts of the COVID-19 Coronavirus on BC programs, including students who are studying abroad this semester. A website (www.bc.edu/coronavirus) has been established to provide up-to-date information on University communications, as well as links to important resources from state and federal agencies concerning the virus.
The health and well-being of all members of the BC community is our top priority. Please distribute this memo throughout your organization.
