Samuel Lewis Bradley, Jr. is the associate dean of academic planning and MSW Program Director at the Boston College School of Social Work. Bradley provides leadership over the social work school’s graduate curriculum, including the program's curriculum development and planning, accreditation, faculty support, and administrative operations. As associate dean of academic planning for the MSW program, Dr. Bradley is responsible for ensuring the program's continued quality, development, and excellence.
Completing social work school in 2013, Samuel worked as a fundraiser and political organizer for human rights in Louisiana. His research focuses on the wellness of historically excluded populations and the application of design-driven methodologies for program development and innovation strategies.
Most recently, Dr. Bradley served as principal investigator for the Work Equity Project, funded by Workrise, an affiliate of the Urban Institute. Additionally, Dr. Bradley is a proud member of the National Association of Black Social Workers and co-developed the Black Leadership Initiative at Boston College.
Prior to his arrival at BC, Samuel served as the Director of Strategic Initiatives for the College of Music and Media at Loyola University New Orleans. His time at Loyola University included supporting the reorganization of the college and marketing new degree programs. Moreover, Samuel provided administrative support and leadership in developing new academic program functions such as alumni relations, student recruitment and enrollment, new program marketing and promotion, and fundraising to support new program creation. Perhaps his favorite accomplishment in this role was working with a team of faculty members to help realize their dream of launching the first Hip-Hop and R&B degree in the country.
Dr. Bradley holds the rank of associate professor of the practice, has doctorate and master’s degrees in social work from Tulane University and a Bachelor of Music from Loyola University New Orleans.
A proponent of design-driven methodologies in social work practice, Dr. Bradley was trained to apply design thinking for social impact through The Phyllis M. Taylor Center for Social Innovation and Design Thinking. He is also a fellow in the Social Work Futures Lab, which applies strategic foresight principles to both clinical and macro issues within the profession.
A classically trained musician, self-proclaimed foodie, and dog lover, you can find Samuel on the weekends in dog obedience school, checking out local festivals, and catching concerts anywhere he can find them.
