Boston College won the Junior Varsity division of the Monmouth University Debate Tournament held during February 12 to 14, 2021.
A partial list of teams competing in the tournament included George Mason, James Madison, Monmouth, Navy, New York University, New School, University of Houston, and Weber State.
Debating for Fulton Debate in the Junior Varsity division was Cross Conrad ’23 and Louis Gleason, IV, ’23.
During the preliminary rounds, Conrad & Gleason defeated teams from George Mason, James Madison and the University of Houston.
In the final round, the University of Houston won the coin flip and opted to debate on the negative side. In a 2-1 decision, the judges voted for BC.
Debating in the open division of Monmouth, Sophia Carter,’22 and Anderson Zhang’23 reached the quarter-finals.
During the preliminary rounds, Carter & Zhang were 4-2 defeating three teams from Houston and one from George Mason.
In the quarter-finals, George Mason debating on the negative defeated BC in a 3-0 decision.
In two weeks, Boston College will compete in the Northeast Regionals Championships and the District Qualifying Tournament for the National Debate Tournament.
