We are thrilled to welcome Dr. David Kurz as a Visiting Assistant Professor to the ENVS program. Dr. Kurz is an interdisciplinary conservation scientist with a keen interest in the human dimensions of wildlife and the environment. His research delves into the profound impacts of global environmental change, exploring how it shapes ecosystems, wildlife communities, and the human societies intertwined with them. Dr. Kurz employs a blend of social and natural science techniques to uncover how humans influence ecosystems, and vice versa. His work has implications for cultural, social, and decision-making processes in relation to the environment.

His ongoing projects range from studying the benefits and accessibility of
urban green spaces in Hartford to investigating bearded pig distributions in
Borneo and the cultural ramifications of lobster die-offs in the Long Island
Sound. Dr. Kurz's passion extends to mentorship and teaching, where he guides students towards equity in linked social and ecological systems, fostering real-world problem-solving through research and engaging class discussions. Join us in extending a warm welcome to Dr. David Kurz as he embarks on this exciting journey with us.
