Fr. Daniel (Danny) Gustafson, S.J. is a member of the U.S. East Province of the Society of Jesus. His studies at Boston College focus on colonial and antebellum Roman Catholicism in the United States. Before beginning doctoral studies, he wrote his S.T.L. thesis on Jesuit slaveholding in Maryland. Other areas of interest include civil religion, the role of preaching in religious history, the impact of religion on race relations, and religious understandings of citizenship and political engagement. He was awarded the Endowed Martin Family Foundation Scholarship in Honor of St. John Paul for the 2023-2024 academic year.
