Margot Parsons has been an instructor of ballet at Boston College for the past twenty-five years, and currently teaches a three-credit course that includes ballet technique, history of ballet, and anatomy of dance for ballet dancers. She also teaches ballet at Boston University, The Dance Complex, as a substitute teacher at Ballet Theatre of Boston and Boston Ballet, and previously taught for thirteen years at Harvard University.
Her early training in ballet was in Chicago with Richard Ellis and Christine DuBoulay and with Eric Braun and Phyllis Sabold. Later she studied in New York with Maggie Black, Richard Thomas and Barbara Fallis, at the Harkness School, and at the Graham Studio. She has studied choreography with Anna Sokolow and Bessie Schoenberg. She was invited to dance with Ballet Theater, Agnes de Mille, and Pearl Lang; she performed with numerous companies in New York City including Choreoconcerts, Larry Richardson, Yuriko, The Ballet Ensemble of New York, and in the City Center production of the “King and I.” In Boston she has performed with Ken Pierce Baroque Dance Company and with the original cast of “A Dancer’s Christmas.”
In 2004, she was named one of the Top Ten Choreographers in Boston by the Boston Herald and has received grants and awards for her choreography, which is regularly presented by members of her own company, DanceVisions, Inc., and by students at Boston University, Boston College, and Wellesley College. She has also choreographed for Across the Ages Dance, Boston Ballet II, and, in New York City, BalletNY. Reviews of her work can be found in Dance Magazine, The New York Times, Boston Globe, Boston Herald, and in several online blogs.
She has been awarded the Dance Belt for her contribution to dance in Boston and appeared on the Boston Cable TV show “To the Pointe” and she appears in the forthcoming movie “Legacies in Dance.”
Along with producing for her own company, she is a founding producer of “Dancers at the Robsham” as well as the highly acclaimed “Dance on the Top Floor,” named by the Boston Globe as one of the Top Ten Dance Events in 2003.
In 2017, DanceVisions presented 35, a celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Company. In 2018 the Company will be presented as part of the Legacies of Dance in Boston.
