Alice Behnegar has taught in the Political Science Department and the Arts & Sciences Honors Program at Boston College for over 20 years. She holds a J.D. from Stanford University and practiced corporate law before entering the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago from which she received her Ph.D. She has written and published on various aspects of the problem of freedom in Tocqueville. Her primary academic interests are the foundations and issues of the modern liberal democratic nation-state, the problem of law, and the history of political thought.
