Laura Sterrett

Biography

Laura studies early modern literature, in particular lyric poetry and non-dramatic texts. She focuses on the relationship between Christianity and literature in the early modern period, looking at cultural and theological contexts and their relation to literary representations of spiritual experience.  Laura is especially interested in historical poetics, metrical psalms, and early modern women's writing. 

Since 2013 Laura has taught a variety of courses in the English department, including the First Year Writing Seminar, Literature Core, and an English elective.  The titles of two recent courses are "Spiritual Journeys in Literature" and "Early Modern Love: Human and Divine."  In addition, Laura organizes the English department's Religion and Literature Collaborative.

Laura graduated summa cum laude from Dartmouth College with a B.A. in comparative literature. Subsequently she earned a Master of Christian Studies degree from Regent College in Vancouver, Canada and a M.A. in English literature from Boston College.
