Johanna Alden is a PhD student in English at Boston College. She completed her BA at Purdue University in 2013, and her Master's in Humanities at the University of Chicago in 2021. Johanna’s interests center on texts from the medieval North Atlantic, particularly the literatures of early medieval England, Iceland and Ireland, and on such texts' figurations of gender, queerness, transness, and the nonhuman. She is also interested in working with riddling traditions and animal studies’ approach to medieval hermeneutic symbol-systems, and in the analytical lenses afforded by trans epistemologies and dialectical thinking.
