Late nineteenth and early twentieth century art in Europe; American architecture.
Professor Howe taught a wide range of courses in the history of art and architecture during his 40-year career at Boston College. He served as Departmental Chair for many years, as well as associate editor of the journal of Religion and the Arts from 1996-2008. In 1998, Professor Howe was instrumental in founding the University Arts Council, which organizes the annual arts festival on campus, and served as its Chair until 2010. Dr. Howe, who retired in May 2018, also curated several exhibitions at the McMullen Museum of Art during his time at Boston College and was the author or editor of numerous books and published essays.
