Alston Conley teaches classes in painting, collage, and occasionally a summer Drawing course in Venice, Italy. He was the Chief Curator of the McMullen Museum at Boston College from 1988 to 2005. He has curated several exhibitions at the McMullen that focus on contemporary art, including Re/Dressing Cathleen: Contemporary Works by Irish Women Artists, and Original Visions: Shifting The Paradigm, Women's Art, 1970-1996. He is also a painter who has investigated natural form and landscapes in his recent artworks and investigated cultural identity in his earlier frescoes.
Professor Conley has received grants and fellowships for his artwork from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, the Fulbright-Hayes Grant for Italy, and the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ireland.
