Asst. Prof. Fazel Tafti Receives NSF Grant

Assistant Professor Fazel Tafti has been awarded a prestigious grant from the Division of Materials Research at the National Science Foundation (NSF) to search for new topological materials. “The project is about a shift of paradigm in searching for new topological materials in the presence of magnetic order, a regime that was originally thought to break topological order,” says Tafti.

The Division of Materials Research invested $370,000 in the Tafti Lab for a period of three years to support their novel approach is designing quantum materials. “Our approach is to combine materials computational techniques with advance chemical synthesis and advance characterization in our lab. Internal collaborations at Boston College are crucial to our progress. We are lucky to have great colleagues with various desired expertise just next door!” says Tafti.
