Nation’s Top Team Ready For Return
January 02, 2016 | Women's Hockey
No. 1 Eagles set to return to campus, start second-half of the season Saturday
It's been a long month off for the top-ranked women's hockey team.
After a 7-2 win at Syracuse on Dec. 10, the Eagles entered their traditional month-long winter break with a perfect 20-0-0 record and were newly-crowned as the nation's No. 1 team. (DYK: BC is just the second team in the NCAA era to each the winter break with an unblemished record, joining the 2012-13 Minnesota squad with the feat.)
Although, not all the Eagles had a full month off. Six current players spent much of the last week in Minnesota at USA Hockey's Women's Winter Training Camp. Katie Burt, Alex Carpenter, Kali Flanagan, Megan Keller, Haley Skarupa and Dana Trivigno trained with the U.S. National Team this week and returned to the Boston area within the last day, joining the rest of the Eagles who have reconvened in Chestnut Hill.
After a month away from The Heights, though, the BC players are ready to get back on the Kelley Rink ice for their first practices back on Sunday.
It'll be a quick week though as a rivalry game – a #BattleOfCommAve – looms next weekend. On Saturday, Jan. 9, BC travels down Commonwealth Ave. to face arch-rival Boston University at 3 p.m., and the Eagles are all too ready to get back into action in the Maroon and Gold.
