International Education Week at Boston College

The Boston College community enjoyed an extraordinary International Education Week with events across November on the theme: Healing along the fault lines: Enduring Crisis; Maintaining Resilience; Strengthening Engagement; Ensuring Justice.

Boston College IEW 2021 was organized and celebrated by a diverse group of departments and offices at Boston College, under the direction of the Office of International Students and Scholars, the Office of Global Education, and the Office of the Vice Provost for Global Engagement.

"It was great to see such a turnout of people at our event and be able to share BC's close relationship to the Javeriana University through a performance that highlights Colombia's vibrant culture. We look forward to planning more events that celebrate the Colombian culture and heritage in the future."

Debt, Development, and Self-Improvement: South Asia and

Global Capital

The Office of Global Engagement and the Office of International Students and Scholars are pleased to announce the next lecture for our Global Scholars Lecture Series. This is a hybrid event. Dr. Meghna Chaudhuri will be giving a lecture entitled "Debt, Development and Self-Improvement: South Asia and Global Capital".

Meghna Chaudhuri is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Boston College. After graduate school at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, she completed her PhD with distinction in September 2020. At Boston College, Meghna is teaching "Plagues, Panics and Capitalism" as part of the Globalization-History Core and is writing about development and the history of capitalism in the non-West as part of her book project A Measure of Value: The Racial Origins of Global Finance in South Asia, 1830-1960

SACRU Graduate Student Seminar

In November, graduate students from SACRU partner schools participated in the inaugural SACRU Research Student Seminar on the theme ‘ A sustainable future: research delivering impact for the 21st century .’

SACRU Presented at the Dubai Expo Italy Pavilion

SACRU colleagues presented "SACRU Alliance: an innovative model of university cooperation inspired by human solidarity" at the Italy Pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020 on Nov 18th.

International Higher Education Webinar

This fall semester's final Center for International Higher Education Webinar will be: "International Student Recruitment and Mobility in Non-Anglophone Countries: Theories, Themes, and Patterns". This event will be a joint effort with the Higher School of Economics, Russia and İstanbul University, Turkey. Please join us virtually on December 14th at 10:00 AM EST. 

Fellowship Opportunity for 2022 & 2023

We look forward to welcoming our first cohort of Global Engagement Doctoral Research Fellows in the Summer of 2022. Also, i n collaboration with the Jesuit Institute, there will be a SACRU faculty fellow visiting in the Spring of 2023. Ricci Institute for Chinese-Western Cultural History

The Ricci Institute for Chinese-Western Cultural History at Boston College is an internationally renowned research center for the study of Chinese-Western cultural exchange. It has recently moved from the University of San Francisco to Boston College.

The institute and its library of more than 100,000 volumes—including rare books, manuscripts, and unique art work from East Asia—will occupy the Creagh Library on the Brighton Campus, with an anticipated opening date of February 2022.

Jesuit Studies Café with David Salomoni

Dr. David Salomoni will present "A Global Earth in the Classroom: Jesuit Education and Geographic Literacy at the Dawn of Globalization" and host an informal conversation on Zoom and over coffee as part of the Jesuit Studies Café. This talk aims at deepening the reflection on whether the process of the first globalization influenced the making of the epistemological foundations underlying modern science through Jesuit pre-university schools.

These discussions are unique opportunities to learn more about the newest and most interesting scholarship in Jesuit Studies. The Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies and its collaborating partners at the University of Lisbon and the Italian German Historical Institute, invite you to join informal conversations with the world's preeminent scholars working on the history, spirituality, and educational heritage of the Society of Jesus.

Presentation: Being “the Other” at Home

Being “the other” at home: Global South perspectives on epistemic justice in the face of coloniality

In this lunch presentation on December 8th at noon, Urmi Dutta , Associate Professor of Psychology, University of Massachusetts-Lowell; and  Ronelle Carolissen , Professor of Community Psychology, University of Stellenbosch, South Africa will focus on (counter)stories of people marginalized in Global South communities through histories of colonialism. 

This will be a hybrid event in the Newton Room of the Corcoran Commons. Masks will be required for attendance at the event, and a boxed lunch will be provided to attendees at the conclusion.

Mariano: Variations on a Theme | Variaciones sobre un tema

The McMullen Museum's exhibition in collaboration with the Fundación Mariano Rodríguez will close on December 5th. The first major exhibition on Cuban artist Mariano Rodríguez (1912–90) in the United States, this retrospective features over 140 oil paintings, watercolors, and drawings from leading museum and private collections, including the artist’s estate, which has provided unprecedented access to rarely seen works and archives.

Study Abroad Deadline Approaching

Please note that the application deadline for Fall 2022, Spring 2023 and AY 2022-2023 Abroad is January 5th. Interested students can prepare for this deadline by exploring the Office of Global Education website.

The  Global Engagement Gateway is a compilation of resources meant to assist Boston College's faculty and staff in the process of engaging internationally—both on campus and abroad. This portal attempts to make these components more visible and convenient to ease that process.
