Sam’s experience in international education started at Indiana University, where he worked at the Center for the Study of Global Change and was Vice President of the International Studies Student Association. After graduation, he was an intern in the Canadian Parliament with the Secretary of State for Latin America and Africa. Next, he was an intelligence officer and Captain in the US Army. After completing his time in service, he moved to Europe, was married in a 1000-year-old castle, and lived in Slovenia and Italy.
Sam has two Master’s Degrees, one in International Relations and one in International Education Management. He has intermediate but rusty foreign language proficiencies in Slovene, Italian, French, Russian, and Spanish; and has traveled to more than a dozen countries. Before joining Boston College, Sam was the International Travel, Health, and Safety Coordinator at Oregon State University; where he was Chair of the International Travel Risk Committee and responsible for 24/7 incident response. In his free time, he likes golf, reading, jogging, and traveling.
