Boston College places 11th worldwide in theology, divinity, and religious studies
The prestige and global reputation of the Theology Department in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences and the Clough School of Theology and Ministry helped Boston College to place 11th worldwide among schools of theology, divinity, and religious studies in the QS 2024 Rankings, released April 10 in London.
The top 10 schools in this year’s survey included Harvard University, University of Oxford, University of Notre Dame, University of Cambridge, Eberhard Klaus Universität Tübingen, KU Leuven, Durham University, University of Chicago, Duke University, and the University of Edinburgh, followed by Boston College.
BC remained the highest ranked Jesuit university in the world, ahead of Universidad Pontifica Comillas 29th and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile 34th, and Georgetown University 43rd and outperforming prominent secular schools such as Boston University 36th and Stanford University 40th.
"We greatly appreciate the international recognition of BC's commitment to promote theology," said Theology Department Chair Andrea Vicini, S.J. "Such achievement depends on the quality of our faculty and students, both in the Theology Department and at the Clough School of Theology and Ministry, the support of the whole university, the collaborations across schools and departments, and the multiple international interactions. We look forward to continuing our theological work—at BC and beyond—with renewed dedication, energy, and passion."
The QS Rankings, prepared by the British firm Quacquarelli Symonds, are considered among the most influential of international university rankings. The Theology, Divinity, and Religious Studies survey was launched in 2017.
