Mass of the Holy Spirit

BC observes a time-honored traditional opening to the academic year

University President William P. Leahy, S.J., will celebrate the annual Mass of the Holy Spirit with homilist Claudio Burgaleta, S.J., rector of the Boston College Jesuit Community, on September 7 at noon in Conte Forum. The Mass was moved from the Plaza at O’Neill Library to Conte Forum due to the heat advisory issued for the Greater Boston area.

Classes will be canceled Thursday from noon to 1:15 p.m.

All members of the University are invited to attend the Mass, a traditional opening of the school year at Jesuit institutions dating back to the Middle Ages. The festive liturgy serves to welcome new members into the Boston College community, renew friendships, and invoke the presence of the Holy Spirit for the year to come.

The Mass of the Holy Spirit is organized by the Office of Campus Ministry in the Division of Mission and Ministry.
