Title: “Jerome’s Vulgate Judith: A Reader-Response Analysis”
Director: Dr. Angela Kim Harkins
Readers: Dr. John A. Darr and Dr. Lawrence M. Wills
Peter Vale was born and raised in MetroWest Boston but has called Naples, Florida, home for nearly twenty years. He has always had a passion for linguistics and theology, and he spent six years discerning a call to diocesan priesthood.
He is excited to be back in the Boston area for this doctoral program, and his scholarly interests include textual criticism, literary criticism, and biblical archaeology. His dissertation will attempt to shed further light on Jerome’s approach to translating Judith by applying reader-response criticism to the Vulgate text.
On a personal note, Peter is a licensed boat captain and an avid scuba diver. His personal heroes include Merton, Thoreau, Sargent, and Longfellow, and he enjoys exploring Boston’s history and architecture. He speaks Spanish, Italian, and Swedish, and he’s now working on Modern Hebrew.
