Barrie Bliss, a PhD student in systematic theology with a minor focus on comparative theology (Hinduism), dedicates her doctoral research to investigating Christian mystical texts from medieval vernacular to contemporary works. Her scholarly pursuits aim to contribute to a 21st-century theological vision, emphasizing the interconnected nature of mystical experiences and theological loci within the Christian tradition, particularly the doctrine of the Trinity and theological anthropology. Barrie actively engages with mystical texts from diverse religions during her comparative analyses.
At the 2022 American Academy of Religion Conference, Barrie was honored with the Founder's Circle runner-up award from the Society of Christian Spirituality Studies, building upon her prior presentations at two international conferences and two publications.
In addition to her academic journey, Barrie holds certifications in Spiritual Direction, Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (300-Hour), and extensive yoga training. Serving as the Director of Spiritual Formation at her Episcopal church, she embodies a holistic approach to studying religion, seamlessly blending academic rigor, spiritual inquiry, and practical engagement.
Beyond her scholarly commitments, Barrie finds joy in the companionship of her Pomsky Puppy, Alabaster, cherishing moments spent in nature through activities like camping, hiking, and kayaking.
