Avi Goldstein is a Ph.D. candidate in History and researches human-environment relationships in the Roman Empire, particularly in Britain. His dissertation "A Marine Environmental History of Roman Britain, 40–450 CE" combines ancient history, archaeology, and ecology to explore how Roman institutions shaped people's relationships with saltwater environments. He excavates as a staff archaeologist at the Roman town of Cosa in central Italy, as well as at Ballintubber Castle in County Roscommon, Ireland. He is the Assistant Director of the Lowell Humanities Series at Boston College, the university's marquee lecture series. He holds an A.B. in Classics from Princeton University.
