Along the banks of the Charles River, the Boston College Economics Department (faculty, graduate students, alumni and friends) distinguished itself for fortitude against cold temperatures and wind in the Charles River Half Marathon and Relays.
Tess (Marco's E's friend) ran the half in 1.49.58, followed by Marco B. with a 1.54.25 at his first half (bravo!), and by Fabio S. with 2.01.13.
For Fabio, breaking the 2.hours mark had been elusive this fall, but he had a happy race and came 3rd in his age (60+) division (out of 4; that is a was penultimate). Having completed his third half in 6 weeks, he will now avoid doing another one for a bit.
In the relays, the "second order stochastic dominance" team of faculty, alumni and family, composed by Geoff S., Aaron F and his brother, came second with a blistering 1.33.52, followed in 4th position by the very fast faculty team the "Flying Economists" (Michael G., Bob M. and Utku U.) in 1.40.19 and by the graduate student team "Mario & Luigi" ( Luca G., Marco E, Luigi P., Sara B. and Marius.H, the only mathematician) in 1.54.35.
It was also great to run with Emily E.I who finished in 2.06.57. Natalie and Libba provided needed encouragement.
It was a great day and the grad students showed the necessary determination and guts needed to complete a Ph.D. in Economics, inspired, perhaps, by the valiant efforts of their faculty!
