The emigration and migration of millions of people from the former USSR and Eastern Europe has transformed the cultural space of Europe, North America, and the Near East. Some of the principal literary figures of past fifty years have been translinguals who transitioned, if incompletely, from working in a Slavic and/or Eastern European language to writing in English, French, German or Hebrew. The “Exile and Translingualism” Symposium at Boston College will explore the creation and translation of literature in exile by translingual authors with roots in Eastern Europe and the Near East.
Keynote addresses by Luba Jurgenson and Katarzyna Jerzak
Roundtable with translingual authors Franck Salameh, Maxim D. Shrayer, and Olga Zilberbourg moderated by Margarit T. Ordukhanyan.
