Boston College was well represented at the January 2018 Linguistic Society of America / North American Association for the History of the Language Sciences Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City. In photo, left to right: Jarod Collier (BC Linguistics 2017), Sissi Liu (BC Linguistics 2017, and now graduate student in the Lynch School), and Bryan Fleming (BC Linguistics 2009 MA, now PhD student in Interdisciplinary Political Science/Linguistics). Not appearing in the photo are Doyle Calhoun (BC Linguistics 2016, now PhD student at Yale) and Margaret Thomas (faculty member)—both prevented from attending as planned by the snowstorm that arrived on the East Coast the day before the conference began. Bryan presented both his own paper at NAAHoLS, and Margaret's paper in absentia; Sissi and Jarod together presented Jarod and Margaret's joint paper; Doyle's paper was also presented in absentia. Also attending LSA/NAAHoLS were Jonathan Geary (BC Linguistics 2014, now PhD student at University of Arizona) and Gunnar Lund (BC Linguistics 2014, now PhD student at Harvard).
