After their initial entrance into a City Connects school, City Connects students had significantly greater improvement over time in report card outcomes in Reading, Writing, and Math than students who were never in City Connects.

An especially interesting finding emerged for literacy outcomes. While all students who were continuously in City Connects schools from grades 1 through 5 had significantly greater improvement over time in Reading scores than students who were never in City Connects, the positive effects were largest for English Language Learner (ELL) students.

As shown in the figure above, by grade 3, ELL students in City Connects schools demonstrated similar Reading report card scores to comparison students proficient in English, thereby eliminating the achievement gap in Reading and between ELL and non-ELL students. Similar outcomes were seen for Writing.
