As we begin the summer internship season, we're highlighting some BC MBA students who discuss their job search, how the program has prepared them for the challenges of their summer positions, and what they hope to gain from their experiences.

Today, we're featuring Justin Dion (MBA ’24), who is interning in Real Estate Operations at Walmart/Sam’s Club in Bentonville, AR.

How did you secure your internship?

After working extensively with my career advisor on selecting potential companies and preparing for interviews, I saw the role posted on LinkedIn and connected with the hiring manager. I submitted my application directly through the Walmart hiring portal and subsequently, the Sam’s Club Real Estate Operations team invited me to a one hour case interview. It went very well and I received an internship offer in February 2023.

How have your MBA studies prepared you for your internship?

I’ve been most interested in the strategy and operations classes which are part of the core MBA curriculum. Many of the questions I received during my case interview directly pertained to course topics that we covered in class and I’m looking forward to applying my new skill set directly to real world projects.

Further, this internship will require an in-depth knowledge and application of data analytics and model building. The data analytics course work we have done in Year One of the MBA program will be extremely valuable for this role.

What do you hope to gain from your internship?

This will be my first professional work experience outside of the U.S. Military or maritime industry and I’m looking forward to building new skills in the private sector. I’m excited to network with fellow MBA interns as part of this program and spend the summer in Arkansas, a state that I’ve never visited. It will be a great chance for me to explore a new part of the country.
