Throughout her young life, Natalie White ’20 has experienced firsthand the inequities of being a woman basketball player. So-called “women’s” basketball shoes are nothing more than smaller men’s shoes, even though, as White came to learn, women’s feet are anatomically different. To fill the need for actual women’s shoes, she created Moolah Kicks, which is being touted widely as “the first queer, female-founded sneaker brand.” Moolah Kicks launched a crowd-funding campaign on May 1 to get the first order of sneakers ready for October, when women’s and girls’ basketball seasons begin. She hopes Moolah Kicks will help pave the way for gender equality in basketball and beyond.
