To All Members of the Carroll School Community:
Like so many others at Boston College and the Carroll School, I’ve been deeply distressed by the senseless killing of yet another unarmed African American. George Floyd’s death is the latest reminder—and there have been far too many reminders—of the racial injustices that continue to plague our nation.
At this time, I want to express my support for all members of the Carroll School community who are speaking out and working in many different ways to address these challenges in our society. Most of all, I want to stress that the Carroll School stands with any members of our community who might bear the brunt of bigotry and even violence for no reason other than the color of their skin.
Let me echo Father Leahy’s words in his June 2 statement, drawing on the tradition that animates Boston College: “It is essential that all of us review our lives to ensure that we act in accord with the Gospel mandate to love God and neighbor. Hatred and racism have no place anywhere, and we are called to challenge such behavior when manifested not only in our community but also in our nation and world.”
Please know that we, at the Carroll School, will redouble our efforts to build a culture of inclusion, mutual respect, and solidarity.
